Among the elite -- Saint Elizabeth earns MAGNET status AGAIN!   
Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, Lincoln, NE, is excited to announce they have received the highest award in nursing for the SECOND time. Magnet designation is the nation's highest honor in nursing, awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Washington, DC. The designation is for an additional four years.

The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 1994 to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the very best nursing care. Magnet designation, nursing’s top honor, is accepted internationally as the gold standard in nursing excellence. Saint Elizabeth has transformed our workplace...fostering innovation, patient-focused ideas and raising the bar on patient care. Our nurses and entire staff work collaboratively, creating a magnetic culture in which new ideas and excellent work practices thrive. Only six percent of U.S. hospitals are designated as Magnet Hospitals. Saint Elizabeth is honored to have an elite nursing program that has earned Magnet status twice and has maintained Magnet status continuously since 2004.

Saint Elizabeth recognizes this ranks them among the elite 6.2 percent of all medical centers in the nation, placing them in the same impressive and selective category with other nationally-recognized facilities such as Johns Hopkins, in Maryland; the Mayo Clinics, in Minnesota; the Cleveland Clinic, in Ohio and Mount Sinai, in New York.

The ANCC uses intensive documentation, data and clinical practice information, followed by a three-day on-site visit in making their determination as to whether a facility meets their rigorous Magnet standards. Earning this prestigious designation a second time required Saint Elizabeth to meet even more challenging standards, including an extensive focus on nursing research and earning advanced degrees and training.

Remarkable Recognition
“This is a remarkable recognition of our accomplishments at Saint Elizabeth,” said Kim Moore, Vice President, Nursing, “We offer such a broad array of services, and each with its specific nursing needs, that this designation reinforces the message that Saint Elizabeth nurses, in every area of the medical center, are of superior quality and are major contributors to the ongoing excellence of patient care at Saint Elizabeth.”

Moore continues by saying that this prestigious award would not be possible once, let alone twice, without dedicated teamwork throughout the entire medical center---from physicians, the administrative team, and absolutely every associate/employee---all focused on providing excellent patient care.
For the nursing teams in particular, Moore added, this Magnet award addresses their sustained level of excellence in professionalism, their culture of caring, quality of training, shared leadership and continued commitment to growth.”

What is Magnet
The Magnet designation term implies "attracting"---that magnet pull---the highest quality professional nurses practices, recognizing them for excellence, providing superb patient care and innovative programs.  During the current nursing shortage, Moore points out, being a Magnet Hospital identifies Saint Elizabeth as among the "cream of the crop" when it comes to an environment where nurses want to work. "The Magnet award means that at Saint Elizabeth nursing is supported and satisfaction levels are high."

Moore says people in and around Lincoln should be very pleased by this award also, because having a Magnet Hospital in the community means everyone has access to one of the most respected healthcare facilities in the nation, right in their own backyard.
